Submissions open for second annual Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award

The Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award is now accepting submissions for the 2017-18 award cycle.

The award comprises a grant of £1,250 to complete a photography project, support from industry professionals, and a further £1,150-worth of premier printing at Metro Imaging. We will work with the award recipient to organise public and industry exposure of the resulting work, such as exhibition or publication.

Applicants for the award, who must be either from or based in the UK, are asked to submit a proposal setting out a compelling vision for a photography project around ‘a human story we seldom see’.

Judges for the award include Karen McQuaid, senior curator at the Photographers’ Gallery, Matthew Tucker, UK Picture Editor at BuzzFeed, Professor Steve Macleod, photographer and creative director at Metro Imaging, and photography critic Jennifer Thatcher (Art Monthly, ARTnews).

Last year’s winner, James Arthur Allen, recently returned from Israel where he spent time documenting the little-known ethnic Circassian population. The resulting photography set will be exhibited at the Tabernacle, London, 11-17 December 2017. The work also features in an Instagram takeover for The Photographers’ Gallery, 24-29 July.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, 2 October 2017. To apply, click here.
